Jamie’s Writing Update for February 2014

By Jamie Alan Belanger on March 1, 2014 8:30 am · 0 Comments

Earlier this year, I talked a little about my goal to write 2,014 words a day, every day this year. The quest continues, and I did stick with it for another month. For me, I think the best part is that I can delete notes once I’ve written the stories and scenes. I’m cleaning up so much stuff that has been piling up over the past few years, that I’m finally getting to other projects, and have even started programming again!

How Much Did I Write?

Fewest words written:  2,041 (February 6th)
Most words written: 4,703 (February 19th)
Average words per day: 2,861
Total words written in February:    80,115

Another 80,000 words, which brings my total so far this year to just over 185,000 words.

What did I write?

Pariah — I got about halfway through the sequel before realizing that I was not actually writing the sequel, but was writing a book that happens between Pariah and its sequel. So then I wrote the sequel too, turning this into a trilogy. I jotted down some notes and now know that there’s at least two more books to write, in addition to the two I wrote this past month.

Dappil fans rejoice! I wrote the first draft of a short story / novella called… Dappil Goes To Hell

I also started to write a short story for the third volume of the Terran Shift Anthology, due out at the end of this year. My first draft of that is quickly becoming a novella. Yesterday it topped 20,000 words, and the story isn’t done yet.

Jamie’s Writing Update For January 2014

Earlier this month, I talked a little about my goal to write 2,014 words a day, every day this year. I have a lot of novels and short stories floating around inside my head, and even if I don’t have enough time to edit and publish all of them this year, I’d like to at least get several of them written. Having first drafts of these stories is better than just having a line item on my TODO list and lots of random plot points and characters sloshing around inside my head. Plus, I read a nice little piece of advice late last year that said that every first draft is perfect… because all it has to do is exist. (quote by Jane Smiley)

So how did I do with this goal?
So far… quite well, actually.

Fewest words written:  2,035 (January 24th)
Most words written: 12,662 (January 3rd)
Average words per day: 3,387
Total words written in January:    104,991

Almost 105,000 words written in a single month… like I hinted at above, they aren’t perfect words and none of this is ready to publish, but it does feel very nice to have that much first-draft quality material written. Once I get a few more things out of my head, I’ll start the editing process and should be able to start sharing and publishing these stories later this year.

What did I write?

Fireteam Zulu — I wrote first drafts of two sequels to my 2012 novel, Fireteam Zulu. I also wrote the first draft of a prequel short story called Alpha Mission about how Sarge and Tank first got involved in their new life.

Pariah — I started to write a sequel to my first novel, Pariah. So far I’m about 5,000 words into it, so I’m really just getting started.

Pariah giveaway on our Facebook page

I’ve been playing with Libboo off and on during their pilot program… not playing as much as I had intended to, due to several projects all coming together in the past few weeks, but now I’m getting back into the swing of buzzing. While using the site, I’ve earned the right to give away 5 free copies of my novel, Pariah.

I’ve posted the link on our company Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/LostLuggageStudios. The link is first-come, first-serve, and there are only 5 copies available, so grab yours while you can!

Publishing Books With Libboo

By Jamie Alan Belanger on September 25, 2012 4:42 pm · 0 Comments

One of the many things I’ve been working on behind the scenes around here is a distribution agreement for our books with a site called Libboo. What is Libboo? In their own words:

Libboo is a publishing startup, with partners and supporters ranging from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt to the National Literacy Trust and the BBC. Libboo aims to help authors (whether they have a traditional publishing deal or have self-published) increase their chance of success by pairing their books with the correct “buzzers”. A buzzer is someone who has influence in their personal community and who, most importantly, is passionate about sharing the books they love. Libboo believes that a key part of making an author successful is to pair them with others who will share their work and help expose it to a wider audience.

It’s an exciting prospect, and working with Libboo has been a pleasure. They started their pilot program on Monday, and my novel Pariah is one of the first books published through their site. The Libboo pilot program will continue for the next three months, and over those months, Libboo will also be publishing editions of Paul’s novel, The Sol-Bect War, Part 1, and our latest anthology, Scribings Vol 2: Lost Civilizations.

If you love reading and this is the first time you’ve heard of Libboo, please check out their site. I’ll make additional posts when our other books become available on their site.
